Record levels of people searching for properties

The average asking price of houses in England and Wales fell by 0.8% to £224,060 in December, according to property website Rightmove.

In contrast, the average asking price of houses in London rose by 0.8%, and in parts of London, such as Camden, the average asking price increased by 6.5%.

Rightmove reports a record level of people searching for properties, up 27%, and a record low level of new properties coming on stream - estate agents are listing less than one new property each week on average.

There is of course a difference between asking prices and the amounts that properties actually sell for. To find out the latest sale prices by type of property in your local area, our free Check Any Postcode service is a good place to go. We take actual figures from HM Land Registry and from the Registers for Scotland and make them available to search in an easy way.
