What this means
More than 90% of applications for credit in the UK last year were decided with the help of a credit score. Lenders consider many factors in addition to your credit score when making credit decisions. Looking solely at your credit score, however, most lenders would consider your score of 84 as an unacceptable risk.
This means:
- You have a below average score and the number of loans and credit products likely to be available to you is low.
- Most lenders will consider offering you rates higher than their standard APR and worse terms on loan products.
- Lenders are more likely to request additional information when you apply, such as income or time at job, to help them make the decision.
It is important to understand that different lenders set their own policies and tolerance for risk when making credit decisions, so there is no single "cutoff score" used by all lenders.
How you compare
Your credit score of is based on a scale of 0-1000, bad to good. The average credit score is 750.
