If you’ve previously been known by or applied for credit in the alias name listed, you can expect it to remain on your credit report indefinitely.

The alias name itself won't have a direct impact on your credit score and isn’t anything to worry about. In fact, it actually supports your credit health as it makes sure that your information follows you even if you do change your name.

If, however, the alias is incorrect, follow the steps below to request its removal:

Step 1

Check that the alias name isn’t incorrectly showing anywhere else on your credit report. If it is, it can be easily fixed – you just need to let the lender know and they should be able to correct it for you. You’ll need to wait for the alias information to be corrected before an alias removal request will work.

Step 2

Click ‘View’ next to where the alias shows on your credit report.

Step 3

Click the 'Dispute' tab at the top of the pop-up.

Step 4

Answer the question shown on-screen.

Step 5

You'll be prompted to confirm two statements once you have answered the question. If you're happy that everything you have selected is correct, click ‘Proceed with dispute'.

Your dispute will be raised with the relevant credit reference agency to remove the alias from your credit report. You can read more about what happens in the dispute process inDoes something look wrong?
