Why has my account been duplicated?

Kynan | Product Coordinator | 1 min read | 11 March 2026

Your Checkmyfile credit report puts all your information from the UK’s three main credit reference agencies – Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion – in one place. If the agencies hold differing information for the same account, it can appear duplicated on your report.

The good news is this doesn’t impact your credit score, and lenders won’t see the duplication when they check your report as part of an application. It only shows on your Checkmyfile report – and lenders check your report with just one of the agencies, not all three.

Duplication can occur when agencies receive contradictory information from lenders – for example, an address format not matching or a name variation on an account – so they aren’t able to be merged on your Checkmyfile report.
