Data breach

A data breach is where a customer’s personal information has been illegally accessed or disclosed, lost, altered, or destroyed without authorisation. This can be either accidental or malicious. For example, an accidental data breach could be a company emailing an individual with another individual’s personal data, and a malicious breach could be cyberattackers illegally obtaining personal data from a business for ransomware (malicious software) purposes.
